Elista Borzoi started in 1978, with the purchase of Ch. Kelemark's Cathedral C.D. ("Ram") a male from Glen Downey, Kelemark Kennels, Calgary, AB. My foundation bitch Ch. Oaklara's Majenkir Honey F.Ch., C.D ("Lexi"). was purchased from Karen Staudt-Cartabona, Majenkir Kennels. She was a puppy back from Pat Murphy, Oaklara Kennels, and I was very fortunate to acquire such a quality Borzoi to start with. Lexi was the first Borzoi to attain the triple title of Canadian champion, Canadian Field champion and Canadian C.D.

Elista is a relatively small Borzoi kennel and has bred 17 litters (some co-breedings) and have put a Canadian Championship title on 28 dogs to date, with many Specialty wins and several Top Ten finishes with limited showing. Elista won the Pedigree Borzoi Top Breeder Award in 1995. Several other kennels have purchased or bred to Elista dogs and done very well with them. Some dogs from the past that come to mind are Can.Am.Ch.Taugo's Vodka On Tha' Rocks, who finished in the Top Five in both Canada and the United States; Am.Can.Ch.Elista's Magic Dragon, Top Ten in the United States; and Ch. Elista's Fleet Wish to Moujik F.Ch.,C.D. a # 1 bitch in Canada. A son of Ch. Elista's Dragan Kaspar's went to Sweden and did very well there. Kaspar was a Top Producer several years in a row. Several current Top Ten dogs in both the United States and Canada are descendents of Elista dogs.

Elista dogs have done well in lure coursing with Ch. Elista's Draganka Valentina F.Ch.X. topping the list. "Minx" won #1 or #2 Borzoi in Canada three years in a row and had three Best in Fields.

Several Elista Borzoi do pet therapy in the Pet Visitation Program with the SPCA and visit the elderly and the sick at hospitals and seniors lodges. Elista Borzoi have participated in many fashion shows and photo shoots and have visited schools and kindergartens. Elista strives to produce show, field, or companion dogs that are sound in mind and body, a dog that easily assimilates into most life styles.
